In February of this year, I reached out to the blogging community to ask if any fellow bloggers were interested in being interviewed as part of a new series on my blog. One blogger who reached out was Hannah, also known as Empty Chairs At Empty Tables. Hannah is a UK-based lifestyle blogger who blogs about her life including her job and the books she is currently loving.
What made you decide to start a blog?
I originally started my blog as a page for me to write book reviews. Both for myself to look back on but also so I could share my thoughts on books I have read with others. A couple of years ago now though, I decided I wanted my blog to be more, somewhere where I could share anything, including recipes I had made, things I had bought and my University life.
Where do you get inspiration for your blog posts from?
I would say my inspiration comes from other bloggers partly but I am also not afraid to try anything on my blog. If people like it, it is great! If not, I just rethink for next time!
Is blogging your full time career? If not, what is your current job?
Nope! Part of me kind of wishes I could be paid to do this but also I am quite happy with my blog just being a hobby! My job is an Overnight Experiences Host for the Zoological Society of London. So I work at both London Zoo and Whipsnade Zoo on the overnight experiences. People come to stay overnight at the zoo and I take people around the zoo at night, telling them about the animals as well as staying at the zoo overnight myself sometimes!
Describe your blog in three words.
Random, chatty and honest.
What is your favourite post that you have written?
I think it has to be my Tips For Success at University post. It was so much more popular than I ever imagined it would be! It is one post I have definitely come to feel proud of over time!
What is one of your biggest strengths that has helped you to be a successful blogger?
I am not quite sure I would call myself a “successful” blogger!! But honestly, I think the fact that I am willing to try anything and I am not scared to conform to high standard posts. I write for my blog for me because I enjoy it and I am just glad that others enjoy it too.
What makes a successful post in your opinion?
Hmmm… Pictures of some sort. A blog post without pictures I find hard to digest. But not too many and especially not the same pictures over and over.
What is a milestone you would like to achieve this year?
I think maybe 700 or 750 followers. I am around 100 followers off but maybe I will get there this year!
What is one lesson that blogging has taught you?
In order to grow your blog and to get feedback on yours, it is so important to give that time to reading and commenting on other people’s blogs too. You cannot expect to just get likes and comments by not giving time to other bloggers!
Who has influenced your blog the most?
Erm… I know I have bounced a lot of ideas off my friend An Historian About Town but also just generally my best friend. They always ask about my next post and motivate me to write the next one if I cannot think of anything.
Thank you to Hannah for agreeing to be part of my series. You can check out her blog here. If you are interested in being interviewed for the next instalment, please leave a comment below.
