Happy POETS Day! I am especially excited for today because after what seems like forever, I am finally seeing Taylor Swift on her Reputation Stadium Tour. If you did not know, I have been a Swiftie since Love Story was released almost 10 years ago and this is my fourth time seeing her live.
However, today’s blog post is not about Taylor Swift, although I will probably do a blog post on the concert soon, but instead is about how to glow up for summer. I am positive at least one other person can relate to the pressure to be looking your best during the summer-time because it is prime Instagram season – your feed is full of photographs of perfect tans, beautiful holiday destinations and stunning bikini photos. But remember, beauty on the inside is just as important as on the outside! This is something that Anjana and I tried to address with the five tips we each came up with to help you look your best this summer. Check out her post here or keep reading for my tips.
Have a Signature Scent
Christian Dior once said ‘long after one has forgotten what a woman wore, the memory of her perfume lingers’ and I could not agree more. A Signature Scent is defined as the fragrance other associate with you – it is the fragrance that reminds them of you and brings back memories of your time spent together.
Perfume was never something that I was really into until I got bought Daisy by Marc Jacobs for my 18th birthday. Previously to then I had been using the Body Shop’s Body Fragrances that you were often given as a party favour, but on my 18th birthday it was decided that I was to make the switch to perfume as it is considered more mature, perfect for the transition to adulthood. Since then I have been bought a variety of different perfumes, although I am still on the hunt for my favourite to make my Signature Scent. I actually did a Buzzfeed Quiz and discovered that my signature scent will be Romance by Ralph Lauren so perhaps that is the next perfume I will purchase.
Drink More Water
There are many health benefits associated with drinking increased volumes of water, including increased energy, weight loss, improved skin complexion, boosted immune system and improved mood, and since tap water is free, there is no excuse not to be drinking it. The volume of water you should be consuming on a daily basis depends on a lot of different factors including your gender, weight and energy expenditure but the general advice is 2 litres of water or 8 glasses a day, although it is agreed that the more water consumed, the better.
Eat Less Salt
Sodium is an essential nutrient in the human body as it helps to balance fluids but too much salt can lead to cardiovascular disease, hypertension and a stroke. Therefore by reducing your salt intake, you are able to reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease and reduce your blood pressure, as well as reducing bloating as it is known that increased salt levels can cause water retention.
Change Your Hair
There are a number of different ways that you can change your hair, some more permanent than others. You could dye your hair a crazy colour or cut your hair short, or you could just style your hair in a new way or move where you hair parts. Changing your appearance has been thought to have an impact on your confidence and your mood and also how others perceive you. Changing your hair style can make you look older or younger which in turn changes how others treat you.
Surround Yourself with People You Like
Jim Rohn once said ‘You’re the average of the five people you spend most of your time with.’ What he is saying is that the people you surround yourself with matter. If you strive to be happy and confident, you should surround yourself with people who are the same. One speech that has really stuck with me throughout the years is one that I was given in secondary school about people being either radiators or drains. The idea is that drains are people who make you feel tired and unhappy whilst radiators are people who make you feel energized and happy and you should surround yourself with the latter.
